Question Looking for recommendation for elliptical for 350lb+ person

DH and I want to buy an elliptical, but it need to hold 350lbs or more, any recommendations?

I really wanted to get one on craigslist as we can't afford one new, but not sure that will happen.

Thanks for any ideas!

ETA:

Dang it, forgot to mention I need to find one that is self powered, no electricity. We are moving off grid in the next few months.

What is your budget? Most consumer grade elliptical machines sold at sporting goods store are usually 300 lbs or less for weight limit; I used to build these for these stores and they are generally not your typical gym quality elliptical. They are flimsy and tend to make a lot of noise.

If you can find used commercial grade elliptical machines you might be saving a ton on durability and initial investment. I see Precor elliptical on CL all the time. You might find a better deal under the brand 'Sole'. They aren't as expensive as Precor but it's commercial grade.

Good question, not familiar with manual elliptical machines at all. Have you guys considered stationary bike?

We have not, we both really liked the elliptical when we used to have a gym membership, we live rurally and have a hard time getting to a gym when it's far away and have kids.

I didn't ever consider a stationary bike, can you get a comparable workout to an elliptical on it?

I guess if you're talking total body workout then sure, elliptical may give you more workout for your arms but burning calories, then probably not. Speaking of which you may want to look at a treadmill as well. Even walking on an incline can burn quite a bit of calories.

In your situation, I would get a stationary bike. Or a bike with a trainer set up. If you have that, you have the option of taking it outside when you feel ready.
