Diaper Swappers

Were you told not to nurse? I ask because my cousin just had her first baby via section. (He was HUGE, at almost 13 pounds!) Anyway, baby is one week old, and she really wanted (wants) to nurse, but was told not to because of the pain killers she is on (I think codeine something?). I have never heard that...I'm afraid that the longer she goes without nursing him, the harder it will be, and I know it's really important to her. I'm trying to be supportive without being pushy, kwim? However, I don't want to encourage her to nurse if the medication really is a risk for the baby....the ped she is planning on going to has one of the best LC in their practice, she is a huge breast feeding advocate, (for example, she helped another friend of mine breast feed her surrogate triplets!) so I'm sure if she gets in to see her, she will have some amazing support. I don't know when she will get in to see the LC though. Anyone know where I could get some good info on this for her? Thanks.

Umm no. I nursed my section babies in recovery ad every day after.

I nursed both of mine within an hour of birth, and my docs weren't concerned at all about the painkillers I was on for the first few days afterwards.

I was told to begin pumping for my NICU C-section baby within 48 hours of delivery (how long it took to get a pump).

I had a c-section and breast fed as soon as I was able in the hospital and have been ever since. I did all the meds and my baby is fine and healthy. I even got off my meds about a week early.

I nursed both my kids in recovery. I didn't take very many painkillers and didn't take any once I was discharged. Why wouldn't they ask her if she planned on nursing and give her painkillers that were compatible?

I nursed in recovery too, as soon as I could feel my arms, lol

Nursed mine right away- even used my boppy! I only used Motrin 800s when I got home though.

I had a c-section with dd#1 and nursed right away as well. I hope everything works out

. The articles should be helpful. I was put on 600 mg Ibuprofen and Oxycodone.
