Embellishing a PUL cover?

I am thinking of getting a Diaper Safari cover or two and trying to embellish them. DH loves Batman, so I thought it would be cool to get a ebony or steel one and do some sort of appliqué. (A cute Father's Day surprise on her butt!). I also wanted to get maybe a pink or purple and do something for DD's first birthday (I prefer to do a cover so it will last most of the day rather than one change).

Has anyone appliquéd on PUL and how do you do it while still maintaining the function of the cover? Would an "iron on" work or would that destroy the cover?

TIA!!

Re: Embellishing a PUL cover?

Try Rocket Bottoms blog she has a tutorial on how she embellishes or embroiders on PUL sorry I have very few posts so I am unable to paste the website. On the top of the site click on blog, then look to your right of your computer you will see embroidery help click on that scroll down until you see How I back and seal my embroidery for diapers on PUL. Hope that is what you are looking for!

Iron on would melt the PUL

You can do embroidery, but if you don't seal the back it can wick. There is a waterproofing spray, and you can use polyester thread to reduce wicking, but that's the best guess I can make!

You can also paint them with fabric paints. I did a couple diapers well over a year ago, and they just recently started to look like they need a "touch up". I used Tulip Soft Paints from Jo-Ann.

Great idea! I may go that route as to not compromise the PUL! Thanks so much!!

MommyZ of 2 do you have any pics? I'd love to see an example!
