Re: How do you buy electronics thriftily?
Shop around, do your research, find out which dealers are reputable in used or refurbished electronics. It also helps us that my husband is techy, so he fiddles with things. He builds our desktop to his specifications for much cheaper than he could buy it pre done.
Also, we don't necessarily buy what we want, but what is practical. |

Re: How do you buy electronics thriftily?
Right now I am saving up Amazon gift cards I have earned on Swag Bucks and paypal from eBay sales to buy a new laptop. My problem is I am not techie at all, LOL. So I am really nervous about commiting to which one to buy. My next laptop will for sure be from Amazon.

Re: How do you buy electronics thriftily?
Heck yeah! We always go with the free cell phone when we upgrade - we bought nicer cell phones just once, but we bought certified refurbs from ebay and saved about 50% in doing so.
My laptop was bought on clearance AND I haggled with the dude at Best Buy and he gave me an extra 10% off .And my tablet is a certified refurbished Nook Tablet from B&N - they were having a super sale right before christmas and I was able to get my Nook for $90 shipped. I then looked online and found a tutorial on how to root it so it runs like an Android tablet. So I did it, and I now have a fully functional Android tablet that I paid $90 for, its SO awesome!!! I think the biggest part of buying electronics thriftily is waiting and shopping around. I waited for almost 9 months to get a tablet... I could have just run out at the first sale and gotten a tablet for $300, or an e-reader for $200. But I waited and waited and shopped around, and I finally got what I wanted, for a GREAT price.

Re: How do you buy electronics thriftily?
Dh is into electronics and has friends at Best Buy. He's been able to get discounted electronics if they were returned.

We get the latest greatest cell phones by watching Amazon wireless. Several times a year they have dozens of phones for a penny.
We just bought nexus 4s. We paid $350 but didn't have to renew our contracts since you buy directly from Google. Like pp said, we build our own computers. Dh buys parts for $700, builds the computer, and sells it for $1300-$1600. I also check woot.com everyday. Normally it's junk I don't care about but sometimes there are things I want.

Re: How do you buy electronics thriftily?
We have bought lots of stuff refurbished in the past few years and have been quite satisfied. WM even sells refurb. Apple sells almost all of their products refurb. Best Buy sells lots of refurb items too.
I got DH a laptop for Christmas since he is going to school online and I waited until it was on sale at BJ's and had a coupon too.
