Re: Am I being unreasonable? My 11 daughter thinks I am!

in my county highway patrol are very visible, I see someone pulled over daily, usually a middle age male, never a teen and most teens here have a car. I see some teens drive like idiots but I see adults do that all too often.

the people who almost hit me and my kids in the cross walk are 9 out of 10 times middle age women

I think if it's been a rule and she knows about it, it's perfectly reasonable to enforce it. It's so hard to balance. You don't know anything about what kind of driver this girl is, and 18 year olds are generally more likely to make mistakes on the road.

I have been thinking about this a lot. 18 really does seem so much different than 16 or 17 even.

I'd have to agree with you. I would not allow it. This last week there have been 3 teenagers that have been killed due to speeding ages 16-18. Oh and one was not wearing her seat belt. I get that 18 might be considered an adult to some, but for me I dont let my daughter even go with my 22 year old niece.I just find that people without kids dont really drive that safe... from what ive seen, like speeding, Blaring music, looking around everywhere but at the road. Id take being the unfair parent over the cool parent anyday.

Id meet the girl first and then decide. If shes not a new driver it, and she has a good driving record, is a responsible person then i would let her go.

Re: Am I being unreasonable? My 11 daughter thinks I am!

I had enough speeding tickets at 18 to have my license suspended, so that probably colors my view, but I wouldn't have let an 18 year old drive my kid, either.

I was a pt nanny at 18. Very safe driver only being pulled over for crossing a solid white line(given a warning). I still wouldnt let my 11yr old go anywhere-much less in their car-with an 18yo I did not know. No way, no how.

I do think its totally awesome she wants to go to a science fair though.
