Re: The babies who nap in sub-zero temps

Although it seems crazy to me...I guess I can't be too quick to judge it if they all do it, it's the norm, and there are no ill effects from it...one thing I don't understand, though, is why is it specifically for naps? Why not just make sure they're outside a lot during the day, for play etc? Maybe I missed that part. It's very interesting, though.

My mom did this with all of us on a pretty regular basis.
I also did it often with my kids especially my son as I had a 2 yr old who lived outside when he was a baby so he came outside in his stroller.
We are Canadian too!!! My kids love the cold and can stay outside forever; just last weekend my son was outside playing pins hockey for 3 hours in -15C

According to my mom, I napped outside as a baby. Note: I was born in December in Ontario, Canada.

My mother attributes the fact that I'm the healthiest of my siblings to the fact that I napped outside.

When DS was a baby, I'd leave him outside if he fell asleep in his stroller.

Amen!!! I'm southern All the way and our house is set at 70 and I freeze. Its 70 at night and I still sleep in sweats and under a blanket and comforter. It doesn't usually get below freezing here and I'm so over winter it's not funny!!! I also cannot stand lots if layers if clothes! Yikes!

I should also add no judgement from me I find different cultures fascinating even if it makes me cold to think about it!

Re: The babies who nap in sub-zero temps

I have the house to set to 72, year round so to me it doesn't sound comfortable but I get that those temps are normal there.

I think I would have the most trouble with having tea/coffee and leaving the stroller outside. I'm not sure I could ever get over my fear of someone just running away with my boys while I had my back turned or was in the restroom.

As a previous poster mentioned though their strollers seem much more like an actual bed on wheels with serious bunting/covers and the close-up baby pic he looked very cozy.

I would if it were the cultural norm. Here it's not and we keep our house on 72 year round so it sounds very miserable to me (I hate the cold!) but it obviously isn't if so many people do it in other parts of the world.

Re: The babies who nap in sub-zero temps

I love the cold. I cannot sleep in a room that is above 55 degrees. I prefer it to be as cold as possible though. When we were in NY and it was -25 winchill I would have my windows open. My husband hated it.

Is anyone else reading this thread thinking, "moving to Sweden sounds pretty good right now"?
