Nope - they had no problems with nursing.

I was only on like 800mg ibuprofen, though. And I was able to get off it within a week.

The staff was very supportive and tried to help me wake her up, etc.

Re: If you had a c-section...

I was encouraged to nurse.

But I also only took advil and tylenol so I don't know how the hospital would have responded if I was taking something stronger. I suspect that they wouldn't have had an issue though as the breast-feeding rates for the hospital were always above 90%.

Re: If you had a c-section...

I was only given motrin after the surgery, with an epi durring the surgery. What meds did she get? I was told to nurse asap.

I nursed within an hour. I'm not sure what meds she's on, but it sounds like she may have got some bad info. A call to the pediatrician would answer her question. Don't wait any longer!

Re: If you had a c-section...

nursed within an hour. Had percocets. I can't believe an L&D nurse was so badly misinformed and that no one else corrected her terrible mistake!

Re: If you had a c-section...

I was pumping for all of my children (all NICU babies) within 2 hours of getting into the post pardom room. The only reason why I might not this time is because I need a PET scan and I don't want to give my son radioactive milk. Though I have been told that I could just save that and in a few hours it would be fine.

Now I didn't get any milk till a few days later due to no labor but that is a different story. My son was released from the hospital at 6 days and I was breastfeeding him at that point while on Oxy then Motrin. No ill effects at all for him. My other children were micro-preemies and they didn't have any ill effect from the milk they drank either.

I don't remember what meds I was on, but one of the two was a prescription narcotic type pain killer and I nursed within an hr of the section.

I was on them for a good week or two after coming home. Hospital said DS would be fine and he was.

Any chance she doesn't WANT to nurse but doesn't want to admit it so uses this as the excuse coupled with "I really want to nurse and I am so sad about this..."

I just really can't believe a hospital would tell her that YK?

Re: If you had a c-section...

I nursed while still on morphine and then for two weeks I took Percocet. Nursed baby with no issues.

It's sad to me that the doc is so ill informed.
