Re: If you had a c-section...

If they're telling her b/c of her pain killers, tell her to tell them to switch them then. I had 4 c-sections and nursed with every single one. Sorry your cousin is dealing with that!

I nursed the hour after I had my ds and with dd I nursed her in recovery. Both c/a . Here's the thing there isn't enough research findings to prove or dis prove what amount ,if any, of medications that get into the milk supply. Damn thing with alcohol. If you don't feel the effects of the alcohol then no need to bump and dump because alcohol leaves breast milk at the same speed it leaves the blood stream good luck

Re: If you had a c-section...

No, they had me nursing as soon as I got to recovery. They got dd1 on the breast before they finished hooking me up tomeverying actually. They said the pain meds they gave me at worst might make dd a bit drowsy but wouldn't harm her at all.

2 c-sections and I nursed in recovery with both. I had trouble coming out of anesthesia with DS1 and he actually was latched by DH, the doctor and our nurse. They held him off and to nurse for the first 8 hours until I was stable.

Re: If you had a c-section...

Nope, I nursed immediately after birth. Both times. Tell her to ask for a 2nd opinion or to change meds. Also a week out she shouldn't need narcotics anymore.

I nursed mine. When I was discharged I was given tylenol 3 with codeine and although I didn't take any(we were sent to Children's and I need to be awake...meds hit me hard).Anyway,I don't see why they would give her a med that would prevent her from nursing.

Re: If you had a c-section...

I was encouraged to nurse in recovery with both of my kids and was taking pain medication.

Re: If you had a c-section...

Not me, but my sister nursed within an hour of her c/s. No problem with the pain meds during the first few days.
