What's the deal with potatoes?
Everything grows in my house, I have sprouting garlic too. But what can I do with this, if anything?

Re: What's the deal with potatoes?
Commercial potatoes are treated with a chemical to prevent sprouting. There is no way to just wash this off, we also ingest it when we eat them.
The only way to avoid it is to buy organic or grow your own. If you want to start potatoes, I would suggest either buying an organic potato from a health foods store or buying "seed potatoes" which are little tiny potatoes you can buy in a bag either at a garden center or online. The seed potatoes are tested for disease and not chemically treated so you can be sure that they aren't going to die on you.

Re: What's the deal with potatoes?
Oh good to know! It's been growing since I put it in water, just a fun thing for the kids to see hah. I went to the local garden store today and picked the brain of the owner, I'm going back in a couple weeks to test my dirt and get seeds/ weed barrier and some other stuff

Organic potatoes will sprout. I have yet to see a tradition one sprout because it can be sprayed

Sounds like my bags of potatoes... I had some potatoes from our garden... in brown paper bags... DH said something about we didn't need THAT many sprouted ones as seed potatoes for our garden & I was ... wondering WHAT he was talking about... so I looked around @ the few brown paper grocery bags I had w/some of the potatoes in them to see the sprouts TALLER THAN THE TOP OF THE BAG (GROCERY BAG SIZE!!).... I & played it off like I KNEW they were like that... & that yep, they were seed potatoes for our garden... in actuality I had just forgotten about them! LOL
