Re: Basically it's Thursday

So I am hosting a dinner party for eight in two weeks. This is my menu:
Appetizers: bacon-wrapped cheese stuffed jalepenos and banana peppers, quacamole and chips
Salad.
Soup as main course, chicken tortilla (with all the condiments - chip strips, avocado chunks, cheese, pico, peppers, cheese) with cornbread. I am going to have a pot of mild and a pot of nuclear hot, so you can mix if you want medium.
Dessert is pecan fudge pie a la mode and banana pudding (the southern US kind, where vanilla pudding is layered with bananas, nilla wafers, and whipped cream)

I know. I feel the need to teach people up here how we eat in Texas.

Anyway, my question is, what kind of salad? My immediate thought is either caesar or simple house with ranch, to counter-balance all the hotness. But IDK if it really "goes" with the menu, KWIM? I am open to and and all suggestions.

That sounds awesome, Kari! I have never heard of a whole class losing recess either, with my kids anyway. I vaguely remember that being a reality when *I* was a kid, LOL. At the old school, losing ten minutes of recess was a first offense consequence, losing all of it second offense consequence for individuals only. At the new school you pretty much have to lose your sheist to get recess taken away (and yes, the Divine Miss G has accomplished that once. Lesson learned. )

The school sounds great Kari

No clue on the food Cheryl...Never eaten Texas food. I as good as never eat spicy food. I even have BK take the chili's off my chili-cheese long burger.

That looks good Jen, but again I am worried too much hot. I think this group is evenly split on team OHMYGODTHISBANANAPEPPERISKILLINGME and team PASSTHEJALEPENOSTHEREISNOTENOUGHHABENEROINHERE. I do like that it's simple though and won't compete with the other things on the menu.

Kari, do you feel he needs to go now? Sometimes I wonder if I should have pulled the kids out of the old school last year even though it was late in the year, just so they would have met more people before the summer. IDK, at the time I was happy with the teachers they had, just not their future there so I was not as driven to pull them out.

I would absolutely pull him out. This way the new school will get to know him and his needs before the start of the new year and not be scrambling to get him the help he needs. He will meet friends in your neighborhood, and maybe you will find out about summer activities other kids in his class are doing that he could join. Idk if other places do it but in WY they had a summer "camp" that kids who were either behind or ahead could go to to either catch up or get to be challenged a bit more. Plus, if the derriere chapeaus at the old school had any question they would know for sure that you were pulling him, and his two siblings for a reason.

Ooh, Jess is right. If you move him now you might be able to do the whole IEP thing before the semester is over. And find out about the summer options, etc.
