Re: Best Math......

Saxon! Loved my math growing up. From a teaching perspective, I taught first grade as a nanny but I forget what the curriculum was.

Re: Best Math......

I am loving CLE (Christian Light Education) Math. It is a rigorous program with a gentle approach at learning. It is very easy to teach and my boys have not been frustrated trying to understand any new concepts since they are gradually introduced. It is very affordable too.

This will depend on your child and your teaching pattern. We use and enjoy Singapore Math.

Re: Best Math......

There isn't one. There are several good, strong math curriculums out there, but they are not all going to work for you.

Saxon
Math-U-See (this is what we use)
Singapore
Horizons
Miquon
Right start
Christian Light Education

Those are the ones that pop to mind, though I am sure there are more out there. I have also heard of Life of Fred and Math Mammoth, but I am not sure if those are full curriculums or supplements.

Re: Best Math......

I think the best math curriculum depends on hat's important to you and how you teach.
To me, good math teaching will have manipulative, mental training, life application, and of course fun factor.
out of those, i can come up with manipulative, life application, and fun factor. Having pre-made mental training drills will be nice to have for me.
Reviews are important too, so having a workbook for review will be nice too.
And good curriculum to me will also have complete content and not lacking in any subject.

i am using saxon math 3 and i like it because it serves purpose for me. i like the fast pace for my son. i like the drills and workbook. i think lessons are quite easy to teach too.

saxon changes its format from grade 4 and up, so i am thinking about switching to singapore math, but i do not know a whole lot about it yet. it just looks friendly to me.

Re: Best Math......

We started RightStart on the recommendation from a friend. She said it was really hands on, lots of manipulatives, that it taught things in a different way and that, because of that, her daughter was able to add really large numbers in her head. That is appealing to me, so we checked it out. My son loves it! We sit down and do it together. I have heard the teacher needs to be more involved than with other methods, but I really like it, too. It is helping me be better at math and it's fun and interesting.

Subbing mostly. Im trying to decide between Miquon and supplementing with MEP, or Signapore. Or to keep looking. Not sure yet.
