Re: Basically it's Monday

What if I took a 2ltr bottle of warm water and poured little trenches along the edges of the sidewalk, so I could maybe shovel big chunks out?

I had to look up what that was, Jen. So I need to get a real shovel (as opposed to my plastic ergo snow shovel) and break it up? Lordy. Shoot me now.

Well, our shovel is in the shed. Which the door is blocked by a snowdrift. I have a heavy-duty rake though. It works ok since it the snow/ice is only 3 inches thick on the sidewalk. I can scrape off enough that in theory the sun would melt what is left. I can only do about 5-6' at a time though. I am going to have to work on it and and off all day. Grrr.

What Kari said. And buy a shovel while you are there, and keep it in the garage.

And next winter, use the shovel earlier so you don't get inches of ice built up! ;p

Actually the ice breaks up nicely with the rake. I think I have salt in the garage tho. I use the rake then the shovel. Sidewalk is done. Driveway parking spot after lunch

The problem was we had 6 inches of really wet snow, then a hard freeze while Ian was in the hossy. Dh was able to plow a single lane from the garage to street before the freeze/chaos, but the snow was so wet the plow wouldn't do any more than that.

I am sure I am going to feel this tomorrow.

Re: Basically it's Monday

Speaking of testing scores, want to hear something odd? So they do MEAP testing here in Michigan starting in 3rd, your standard achievement testing stuff. This year, the third grade had an unprecedented leap in scores across the board in our district. And the scores were pretty good to begin with. IDK about the other elementary schools, but I know in ours the third grade enrollment increased by about 25% (people like us taking advantage of the bad real estate market to get into the district). Since the 3rd grade test pretty much evaluates what you learned in K-2nd it makes me wonder if all the new kids threw the scores. I can't wait to read the report. There aren't many Asian females in Rosie's grade so I will be able to tell how she probably did.
