strep throat help

poor DS has had a hard few days. Thursday he had his sedation dental work done (the extractions and cap. The other cap turned out to only need a filling) and that night he was running a high fever of 103. DH took him straight to the pediatrician Friday morning and he got strep throat. So he is on antibiotics. He has been sleeping all weekend. Poor boy.
Anyways, his nose is super stuffy but he can't blow it because he immediately starts coughing.
Any ideas n how to help him? I wanted to do the saline spray but he basically turns purple crying about that thing. He hates the feeling and has a few sensory ticks. So I want to do that very last.

Also, what could help with his cough?

Thanks

Have you tried some over the counter cough meds? Triaminic makes a great one that I use for my boys.

Poor guy!
I'd recommend a cool mist vaporizer in his room, and keeping a pot of water simmering on the stove when you're home to keep lots of moisture in the air. That should help with the stuffiness. For the cough I'd do lots of honey, lemon, warm water drinks. Vicks vapor rub and those vicks plug in things might help as well. If you get really desperate and the cough is unbearable, mucinex mini melts would be worth a try.
Hope he feels better soon!

Yes....I was going to say a vaporizer or I think ours is a warm mist one? Just something to help them breath better at nighttime.

Those plug ins are great too. Or run a hot shower if it gets really bad and have them sit in the bathroom for 10 mins etc.....

DS2 gets strep all the time, he needs his tonsils out in fact, so we are very used to strep here!

After 5 days of antibiotics he should be much better. The last time i had strep i was given bactrim. I was feeling better within a couple if hours and almost normal in 2 days. If he isn't better now he may need a stronger antibiotic

today he seemed much much better. No fever and a huge appetite. Every other day he was sleeping all day and today he didn't even take a nap. Just coughing and a stuffy nose. His voice is raspy though.

Re: strep throat help

Will he tolerate spicy? I use a homemade concoction that helped with the cough/sore throat/stuffiness of the nasty cold I'm getting over. It's 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, 1/4 tsp powdered ginger, 2 Tbs water, 1 Tbs apple cider vinegar, 1 Tbs honey. Mix all the ingredients together. I put it in a little jar so I can shake it up before I take some. For me I take a Tbs, but would give a child a tsp. It would last me about two hours, but calmed the cough and cleared the sinus congestion enough that I could breathe pretty easily.

Not a crunchy solution, but I get strep every single year, and have since... as long as I can remember so before school age. Chloraseptic spray is my go to for numbing and not coughing. Can't feel the irritation, won't cough. Tastes like crap and is annoying to spray on tonsils/your throat, but so worth it for me.
