For the love of reading group! ~MARCH 2013~ *Join us!*

Do You Like to Read? Do you want to make reading a bigger part of your life OR are you already an avid reader but want someplace to discuss books and get book recommendations?

WELCOME!

This will be a monthly thread where we’ll set personal goals for reading, as well as discussing books. This also can be a place for you to keep track of how many/what books you’re reading to your kids, if you’d like.

How to Get Started:
First set a goal for yourself! You can challenge yourself to read a certain amount of pages or books per month/year. This is OPTIONAL - if you don’t want a goal that’s fine. Having one is just a tool to help some of us make sure we’re reading but its not a requirement to join in
If you do decide to set a personal goal you can post it here but you DON'T have to if you'd rather keep it private-this is NOT a competition and there is no prize for reading the most books lol!
Do whatever YOU want to do and most of all HAVE FUN with reading!

Second-get a book and start reading! When you’re done with a book it would be great if you could talk about it here-you don’t have to do a chapter by chapter summary but just a sentence or two about why you like/dislike it. This will help others find new books to enjoy themselves

And feel free to join in at any time! I've taken lead in starting this month's thread, but if anyone wants to start the new months if I forget - please do!

It's March and I'm a few days late. Anyone can start the month's threads if I haven't been able to. Just try and keep the title in the same format so it's easy to find and link the new thread in the old month's thread so everyone can find it.

Re: For the love of reading group! ~MARCH 2013~ *Join us!*

As for reading, I finished up Outlander and that was great! I have the next one waiting for me on the Nook. Yay! I'm about to start the audiobook, The Valley of Horses, by Jean M. Auel - book 2 of the Earth's Children series. If you haven't read Clan of the Cave Bear yet (book 1), it's awesome. I have high hopes for the series, though I've heard the last book was awful and not worth the read. I'm sure I will anyway.

I have Bossypants by Tina Fey going as well. That's my irl book club pick for March. And then I keep trying to get into Doc by Mary Doria Russell (fiction about Doc Holliday), but it's reading like a non-fic and I'm not all that interested in western stuff. It was highly recommended, so I might push on to page 50 or so and see how I feel then. I want to love it though, I do!

So what's everyone else reading?

Just finished reading The Gatecrasher By Madeline Wickham, and I am currently reading Here I go Again By Jen Lancaster. The Gatecrasher was alright. The ending could have been a little bit better :/.

Re: For the love of reading group! ~MARCH 2013~ *Join us!*

This thread is quiet this month! I am totally guilty as well, but I also haven't done much reading this month. I am still listening to my audiobook (The Valley of Horses) and it's great. My book club chose Tina Fey's Bossypants for March and I am struggling to get through it. I expected SO much more from her! I think I am just going to ditch it and pick up something I can be excited about reading, because I have been just avoiding my reading because of this stinker of a book.

I've finished a lot of good books & I posted them for sale here & on Spot's. I just finished Ellis Island by Kate Kerrigan & it was good.

I just started Maeve Binchy's last novel last night.

Ooh, I've heard good things about Ellis Island. I might have to check that one out soon.

I'm listening to The Valley of Horses on audio (2nd in the Earth's Children series that I love so far). Book wise, I gave up on Tina Fey's Bossypants I was reading for my IRL book club. I had SO much more hope for that book. I don't usually just give up on a book, but I didn't find it funny at all. It was pretty stupid, imo.

DD and I have recently gotten into American Girl in the last couple years and I bought the new historical doll, Caroline with their free shipping deal they just had. So I read the first two of Caroline's books this past week and picked up a handful of others to read as well. They're very short and easy reads (meant for preteens, lol), so they hardly count. But it's a fun little break between big novels and I'm enjoying that right now.
