Experiments in yarn dyeing! Mermaid/Gnomes in Post #10!

I bought a big hunk of fisherman's yarn from Joann's so I could try my hand at yarn dyeing. I used Dylon (which i now know isn't great for wool--is pretty pale) and then I used food coloring.

The smaller hanks of yarn will probably be used to make booties or something scrappy

This is the one I used Dylon to dye. It's like a girly pastel rainbow, except the other colors took over the yellow, I am excited to see how it will work up.

This is a bit of bamboo yarn I had sitting around. I mixed turquoise and yellow Dylon and it made this really pretty green.

I had fun and will probably get some Wilton colors for the next time I dye.

Re: My first experiment in yarn dyeing!

I made my first pair of baby leggings! I used the pastel rainbow yarn that I dyed. I think the colors worked up pretty nicely.

Awesomeness in a rainbow... Love that green/yellow one... That's probably my most favorite yarn colors I've ever seen... Very springish.

I'm looking forward to working with that one, too! Not sure what I will make yet. I know it's not enough for more leg warmers, so I might make a little newborn hat for my cousin who is due in may.

Re: Experiments in yarn dyeing! Updated with Projects!

Been busy making some little toys. I am excited to make more. I used a pattern for the gnomes, but kind of did my own thing with the mermaid. (She's kinda doughy, but lets just say my mermaid is postpartum )

Girly gnome

Emily approves, the gnome now lives in her crib

Boyish gnome

Mermaid

Hair detail

Thanks for looking!
