Going commando

My son (3 this month) has decided that he wants to "go 'mmando" most of the time.

I don't much care one way or the other, but DH is all twitchy about it and says it's weird to not wear underwear. DS is fairly fastidious about his bathroom habits, and after one dramatic incident where he caught himself in his zipper he's very careful to zip cautiously.

Is it weird to let him go sans undies?

That is so funny! I don't think so if you don't have a problem with it. My only thought is that you might have to wash his clothes more often. I like just changing my daughters unders and letting her wear her pants again later.

I don't see a problem with it.

To appease your dh, could you try boxers?

Has your son seen your husband in his underwear/boxers? I know my 3 year old wants to do everything "just like daddy" so maybe your husband could be like "Hey, check out these cool daddy boxers I wear, would you like some just like your daddy?" :P

Re: Going commando

When dd potty trained, we had a stage where she couldn't wear undies or she'd pee in them. She's past that now, but she still just forgets sometimes. If I notice she's not wearing any, I'll ask her if she wants some as a reminder, but I don't force her. I'm sure they'll outgrow it eventually, right?

I don't think it's a big deal. That's how I potty-train kids. I have a dc, so going naked from the waist down is a no-no, but commando gets the same idea across. I typically don't put kids in pants with zippers though-mostly knit pants or shorts.

Re: Going commando

Well, since no one has said I'm scarring him for life I'll just roll with it and let DH work through his own issues himself. I'm sure pushing the issue will only lead to DS pushing back, it's not a battle-worthy event for me.

Re: Going commando

My three year old also prefers this at home. I think it's easier for him to go to the bathroom "by mine own self" as he says. Works for me! I do have him wear them when we are out. He seems to keep his boxer briefs on longer than jockeys so you might see whether a change of style is something he'd like.
