Re: If you could only buy one carrier?

Ok, I found a beco butterfly for a good price so I got one of those. I'm due in July and someone suggested a gauze wrap for comfort? I have also seen the baby K'tan wraps and they look very light and breathable. What would you suggest for the HOT weather with a newbie? I think the beco will be nice, but say we are going to the zoo or somewhere and I know it's a 100 degree day (which we have) what would you wear? Thanks for all the suggestions - you have REALLY helped!

I agree with this! I would add a wrap conversion mei tai. I like the wrap straps - gives you more support and coverage.

I am happy with the Ergo, except for the infant insert. For the most part, I have only used it during hot weather, and have usually ended up with a sweaty baby with heat rash. I would only use that where there is cold weather or powerful air conditioning. The Ergo itself is not bad, but maybe not the most breathable either. If the weather is hot, try a linen ring sling.

Also, I picked the Ergo partially because of its wide weight range. (Newborn to toddler, 7-45 pounds). I haven't used the carrier much since my daughter was a year old, around 20 pounds. She didn't want to be contained in it much once she got crawling and walking, despite my good babywearing intentions.
