Meal planning rhythms

My daughter has all sorts of anxiety and behavior problems if she doesn't know what to expect from the day but planning is NOT a strength of mine. I used to meal plan for the week and it would save me money but I've fallen out of practice. I want to start having specific nights for types of dinners to help me better shop and for my daughter to know what to expect. I'm drawing a blank though! So far I have taco night and pasta, lol.

Re: Meal planning rhythms

although I think she's taking a break from blogging, google Morristribe. she has a file called just get them fed and does a pasta night, chicken, beef, veg, crock pot. i can't remember each, but similar to what you want. then just arrange the schedule with your favorite meals!

My Mood:
Typically we do
M-crockpot whole chicken
T- left over chicken turns into crockpot soup (chicken tortilla, chicken noddle etc)
W- left overs night
T- pasta night (sometimes no meat)
F- homemade pizza night (if we used tomato sauce the night before the we use thhe left over on pizza)
S- this differs since sone times my husband cooks and we usually try to do.something we haven't done
S- breakfast for dinner (I make a bunch of french toast for example and then we have breakfast for at least half the week)

We are in the process of trying to sell pur house so we have showings on weekends so sometimes dinner might be random and easy.

Re: Meal planning rhythms

I plan on a monthly schedule. I just can't do the weekly since I usually need to see the big picture to avoid repeats. DH is picky about "we had this LAST week!"

I plug in breakfast options at the top of each calendar and fill in the days with Lunch/Dinner and Dessert.

I always leave Sunday open for whatever we didn't eat on a planned day, or to use leftovers or pancakes for dinner.

Re: Meal planning rhythms

We do a whole roasted chicken and root vegetables once per week, and used to do homemade pizza once per week. I get my CSA box on Tuesdays so I check that out and plan, then shop on Wednesdays. Since I shop on Wed we always have fresh fish that night. Sundays I like to slow cook something, usually beef, because we are home all day.

When I was more routinized, it looked like this:
Mon - pasta
Tues - some sort of pork or chicken pieces
Wed - fresh fish, steamed veggies, rice
Thurs - whole roasted chicken, root veggies and potatoes, sauteed veggies
Fri - homemade pizza
Sat - a veggie dish, usually Mexican food
Sun - slow cooked beef

Re: Meal planning rhythms

I don't have set nights for things, but I make a pot of soup just about every week. And my boys love quesadillas (just a tortilla with lunch meat and cheese, heat it on the stove till the cheese is melty) so we do that once a week or so too.

Re: Meal planning rhythms

I am a vegetarian and I easily get caught up in a cycle of mexican and pasta dishes, so this is helpful!

This is great! I'm just starting to 'meal plan' so I don't have any suggestions ... But these are all wonderful ideas!
