Sometimes I just flat out ask my 4.5 year old to stop talking. She says "ok!" Gives me two or three minutes of blissful, priceless and well deserved silence.

Re: Does anyone else have a child who NEVER shuts up?

Hehe, my 5 year old loves to talk, talk, talk, when we are eating too, then asks for my opinion. I just nod so I don't have to talk with food in my mouth, then she asks me to speak, so I do, then she tells me not to speak with food in my mouth.

She's always been this way.

If I ever tell my kids shhhhhh because I have to focus on something, they still keep going with lower voice. lol

They also asks questions about things that doe not really make sense and I do not know how to answer and I have to ask what that even means.

Perhaps he can use that imagination and make up a story and write a short story, or draw pictures of whatever is on his mind, keep journal, or paint.

Or offer him something he can enjoy quietly like audio book or zig-saw puzzle.

You can start a note-exchange where he write you a note and you write him back.

He might enjoy talk to his friends on the phone, or skyping his family member for a while.

She loves her idea book though.
Oh I shall be stealing this idea. My 6 year old has been talking non-stop for oh about 6 years now. My 3 year old does have moments of quiet but not many.

That's us- although not as long of trips to the nearest town, but last year we drove 3.5 hours to the beach and DS never stopped talking

When mine runs out of things to say she starts making noises.

It gets better w age

I ask her just to tell me what is important. Oh and calling grandparents on iPad FaceTime seems to help her get her blabbing fix.

Ds1, he's almost 7 and never runs out of things to say.

Sometimes I try to explain to him that when he shares ALL of his thoughts, even the less important ones out loud, that its hard for me to know what the really important awesome stuff is, it's beginning to sink in but man it's exhausting.

I wish I had more words of wisdom... But I don't and that is why he has a 7:30pm bedtime. Sometimes we just need some peace and quiet.
