But what will I do with all those disposables?
Hi all, I'm Arghlita. I'm 32, married 10 years and we expect our first child (a boy) on April 1. We suffered some financial setbacks and signed up for parenting classes to get some of the freebies offered for new parents, so we now have a giant stockpile of size 1 and 2 diapers.
I always planned to cloth diaper because of cost and environmental impact and I still want to. My husband is totally on board with that. We do, however, have about 40 gallons worth of disposables. So I'm hoping to use them as a stop gap while we acquire cloth diapering supplies and as a back up for baby sitters if we have to. Does that sound like a plan? |

Welcome and congrats!
Use those that you need to, and donate what you have left over. There should be women's shelters in your area, and if not, try contacting local food pantries to see if they could give them out.

Re: But what will I do with all those disposables?
Welcome and congratulations on the little one on the way!
Keep a few of the disposables, just for emergencies, and then check your local crisis pregnancy center. They're usually looking for baby supplies.

Not sure where you live, but you could also sell the diapers that you don't use on craiglist or the like. Just make sure that you don't open the packages.

Re: But what will I do with all those disposables?
I would definitely keep some for emergencies and donate the rest to someone who could use them.

Re: But what will I do with all those disposables?
Well I actually got them from the crisis pregnancy center, but I don't think they will take them back out of the packages (even though that's how they distribute them) so I will probably freecycle them.
It was kind of tongue-in-cheek, honestly. I'm just concerned about figuring out cloth diapers in a timely manner because I never realized the depth and breadth of it until joining this community! |

You can always check to see if Walmart will take them. Then you can use the cash to get your cloth stash.

Re: But what will I do with all those disposables?
I'm pretty sure no one will buy them since what I have is three storage containers full of mixed brands of diapers that are out of their original packaging. I suppose if someone was really down on their luck, they might go for that but I haven't the faintest idea what I would charge, although it would be nice to be able to put some extra money towards cloth instead.

Re: But what will I do with all those disposables?
I'm sure someone will buy them if the price is right. Some of the crisis center won't take them though if the package is open because they are afraid of tampering. I would use them up though if you can't find someone to buy them. I don't see a reason for them to go to waste.

Re: But what will I do with all those disposables?
We usually keep some on hand for emergency situtions, road trips, etc. Or as others have said donate or sell them. I'm sure someone would buy them from you
