Re: Does your child(ren) use wipes or tp?

How did you teach your child to wipe their bum? My son is 3.5 and doesn't get in to the bum area and actually wipe anything up when he tries. I was thinking it was something we'd teach later, but he has been pooping at daycare alot and they would help him if he told them but he doesn't seem to tell the teachers when he poops so it goes unwiped. They did say they are also working with him on it - not sure how again if he doesn't tell them.

Another issue is at home he uses the bjorn potty. We do have step stool for the big potties but he is more comfortable on the little ones which is fine, but it is hindering learning to wipe as well.

What teaching we have done is with TP because that is what they have at school. I was wondering if using disposable wipes would be easier to learn with? But then it doesn't really help the school situation...

If you have any suggestions it would be helpful. Google searching wasn't helpful and this forum isn't very popular so the internet hasn't been very helpful.

My kids used to use tp. We had a lot of skid marks even with our 9 year old. He actually was refusing to wipe Once we switched to cloth no more skid marks.

As for teaching kids to get between the cheeks I teach my kids to bend over to wipe. This opens up the cheeks to get inbetween.

We use a combo of tp, family cloth, and disposable wipes. DD is 4.5 and is just now getting decent at wiping her butt. For the longest time she couldn't reach her butt..seriously lol I love disposable wipes bc I feel much cleaner after a number 2.

DD's 3 and used tp for pee and cloth wipes for poop. Until she masters consistent handwashing I would rather she not try and wipe the poop.

We also use wipes with my 5.5 year old. He only uses 1 each time so it doesn't bother me.

Flushable wipes for #2s. My 7yo is still trying to master this but wipes help tremendously. On the other hand, my 5yo has been completely self sufficient in the bathroom since he turned 3.

To instruct on wiping their butts, my Dh told them to lift their scrotum toward their tummy and wipe forward and away. Hard to explain on here. I'm fairly certain he actually showed them lol. It works to keep them clean and there's no spreading then missing.

We get the cheap flimsy facial tissue, she can pull out one sheet at a time. I don't have to worry about her unrolling too much or clogging the toilet that way.
