Idea for starting Christmas gifts - making extract

I just placed a huge order online for homemade vanilla extract! I bought some cute glass flasks, a bag of vanilla beans, and some labels. I need to pick up a bottle of vodka, and then I'm in business! For around $10 I'll be giving all the women in my life a 16-oz bottle of homemade vanilla extract. I'm starting them now so they have 9 months to age, and I won't have to do ANYTHING come holiday time!

For those that have family or friends who enjoy a fine liqueur or drink, I'm also using the same glass flasks to make alcohol infusions! Using a mason jar, I'm infusing tequila with different flavors, like lime, jalapeno, pineapple, chocolate beans, etc. Let it sit for a few weeks, then strain it out. Pour into the flask, label, and let age until Christmas!

I know lots of you enjoy making homemade gifts for family and friend during the holiday, and I thought of this idea last year when it was too late to start any of them. Just thought I'd share this year!

Re: Idea for starting Christmas gifts

A bunch of women from my church did this last year. They actually split a big order and each one could get as many bottles as they wanted for a pretty small price. That way if they only wanted to do 3 bottles for gifts it was still a great price instead of needing to do at least 10

Infused oils are a great gift as well. You can infuse them with fresh herbs that you grow yourself or buy at the farmers market. And you can do it for a fraction of the price of a bottle from the store.

Oils and vinegars would be a great idea too! I ordered a bulk package of 30 flasks, so I'll have plenty to experiment with. I'll try this too.

I actually bought everything on Amazon except the alcohol lol. Beans were $11.50/16 beans. Labels were cheap at like $4/75, I bought removeable ones.

But I think you could find cheaper bottles if you bought plastic or just shopped around. Screw cap seemed to be cheaper than swing top, but you know Amazon! Prices change everyday!

Oh and lemon and almond extracts look cheaper and as easy as vanilla.
