Why is ground beef never on sale anymore?

If you hit your local grocery store early morning, you can sometimes find yesterday's fresh beef for a discounted price. I also hit Sam's club mid week to get what they have marked down.

hanging weight on a cow if you can find one is right now 2.50/lb+ or about 1k for a half after you've had it processed. its going to be this way for 18mo at least. It takes 18 months or so to raise a calf til its large enough to butcher. So try and find an alternative or just don't use red meat.

I have a few more packages from our last half which was 1.5 years ago and I also have ground venison which I will also use (in spicy stuff not in a meatloaf). And I've been adding beans to it to help it stretch so a 2lb meatloaf has 1lb of meat and 1 can of beans, a chili has 1/2 of lb of meat instead of a whole one.

Right now its actually time to stock up on fish, fish is usually cheapest at the stores during the Lenten season.

I was going to recommend turkey too! We've been eating it for about 6 months here. As a side note I've tried to switch to turkey a few other times and everyone including me could really taste the rather "gamy" taste of it, but I hit upon a brand that is wonderful (can't think of which one right now, but if anyone is interested LMK and I'll check which brand I'm buying).

Costco here is $2.99/lb for ground beef. My in-laws bought us a membership! God bless them!

I noticed that also today while at the grocery store. We've used turkey a few times when it was on sale for making tacos and it was pretty good.

You could always do half turkey & half ground beef.

I do this as well. Have been since my husband and I got married almost 15 years ago. I use Aldis ground turkey. It used to be 39 cents. It isn now I think $1.29. In fact when I do happen on a sale of ground beef my husband and kids complain the food doesn't taste right. The only time I use ground beef anymore is when I am making hamburgers which is very rare.

Yup. I happened on some discounted beef at Aldis. After the discount we paid around $1.25 a lb. None of it was ground though. It was steaks, roasts and a couple packs of stew meat.

I've really noticed it too, seems so much more expensive this year more than others. Luckily my kids are not big meat eaters and we could easily just use 1/2lb between us(DH doesn't eat dinner here most days). Plus I find some of the stores tend to sell 2lbs worth instead of 1lb frequently which is annoying so I have to divide it up.
