Re: what got you through transition (natural birth)?

I was completely focused on my breathing...deep breath in, blow it out...deep breath in, blow it out (except for a time when I forgot to breath and my hubby had to remind me before I passed out)...just totally in my own labor-land world...and my midwife's words kept repeating in my head, "This too shall pass...this too shall pass..." I was on all fours, butt in the air, my hands smashed on top of my hubby's hands, holding a cold washcloth on my forehead. Vocalize whatever you need to and just let your body do what it was intended for...don't fight it or over-analyze it, you are in good hands!

Re: what got you through transition (natural birth)?

These mantras: " My body and baby are working together" and "When you can't take any more, there's no more to take." Those may really be pre-transition because I feel that I go to a really "primal" place during that time.

Between my second and third babies I attended midwifery school. My 3rd labor was my longest and hardest. At many points I felt really out of control. I recall feeling a little relief when I heard myself cry out, despite myself, "I can't do this any more!!!".

I knew from the countless births I have attended that this was a sure sign I was right around the corner, and sure enough I was.

Good luck, mama! Hope this helps a bit.

Gripping the hospital bed and screaming my head off. I did not handle it well.

Breathing seems to be a common theme! I also rocked a lot to find a comfortable position when the worst wave came along. Hubby's support was also a godsend!

Re: what got you through transition (natural birth)?

As an OB nurse most of my patients having a natural and/or waterbirth usually start feeling like they can no longer do it anymore. More than not they cry. Just ensure you have great support and have the room feeling how you see best. Also, our midwives will have the mom touch the head because that usually enforces the fact that they are doing something and the work is paying off.

Ditto. Except I beat the hell out of the bed rails while screaming my head off.

I yelled. It felt good to yell. I was in my own house, though, so I didn't really care about yelling.

So my first I had an epidural after and inductions and I had no idea when anything was happeneing but #2 was natural... I my transition lasted 10 minutes maybe but I was happy anwalking around before that and then all the sudden I was like whoa that hurt then the next hurt worse and then all the sudden I was like holey crap! I remember laying down because I was dizzy and nauseuos and freakinh out telling my nurse midwife that I want to pain killers now. And she told me to relax I can do this and then it was time to push! Hope ill be more prepared for whats coming this next time lol!
