shredding

Back about 2 years ago when I was using gms, one day I opened my washer to find them shredded (just the insert parts). Even ones that were purchased new by me and not second hand. I switched to my diaper addiction fitteds. Now they are shredding, but it's not the inserts, only the outer fabrics. What the heck? I use Nellie's, Fwiw. I usually do a cold soak/prewash. Hot wash and rinse cycle, medium heat dryer setting (gms were always line dried, we've since moved and line drying is not allowed). They have never had oxyclean used on them. Does anyone have any idea what I could possibly be doing to destroy several dollars worth of diapers?

How old are they? What are they made of? Could be lots of factors.

Re: shredding

My guess is the detergent or the washing machine.

I do an overnight soak in oxyclean and 140 degree hot water. Even the diapers that have been in use for more than a year are not shredding.

Everything is cotton or cotton velour. I've never had a problem with my cotton prefolds, and they've been used longer than either the gms or the mdas. Is it possible that my kid has funky cloth destroying urine? Lol

Eta: some of the gms were only maybe 6 months old. My mdas are about 2 years old.
