I have had a lot of people loan me clothes - maternity and kids. Such a blessing. So I do loan clothes. As for diapers - I've loaned out my kissaluvs 0's several times and some AI2 inserts once. I have been using the rest of my stash for 3.5 yrs straight now. I'd loan it if I knew we were going to have more.

I have some friends that are thinking about CD. I've been scoping the FSOT for them. I figure that's the best way to help without giving them my stash.

Re: Would you loan out your diaper stash

Nope..I know its a selfish answer but I try to be as nice as possible and have been in situations where I got my things back broken, ruined, stained etc... What killed me was that the people I lend them to did even have the courtesy to even ask to replace them.

Re: Would you loan out your diaper stash

The short answer is no. The long answer is, only to certain people (my brother for example) and only if I was OK with not getting them back. I use BG and Thirsties, both of which have crappy elastic that needs to be replaced after a kid or two, so I would also stipulate that they are responsible for elastic replacement at the end. If they didn't agree to that, the the long answer would be no as well.

Re: Would you loan out your diaper stash

Not if I wanted to use it again. I did give a large portion of our stash away after kid #3 (thought we were done. Oops.) I gave about 30 fitteds, several PUL covers, and a few pieces of wool to a friend who CDs. I'd rather just give things away than worry about getting them back in usable condition. She did offer to give them back when we found out we were having #4, but at that point she was using them on 2 kids, so I figured she should just keep them.

Even for my BFF, I made her pay me a "deposit" on the 12 BG smalls she wanted to use. Good thing, because they came back to me with shot elastic, and I couldn't use them on DS. She currently has some of DD's old Smartipants. If they come back to me in the same condition I gave them to her, she'll get some of her money back. But she just found out she's expecting #2, so by the time they've gone through 3 kids (her 2 plus DD), I may not want them back to resell!

Re: Would you loan out your diaper stash

Probably not if I wanted them back for another child, as I would be too upset if I didn't get them back, or got them back all stained or with shot elastics. It would really depend upon who I was lending them to, but probably not. I do fully plan to give some of my son's diapers away to friends when he is out of diapers...basically lend them out but not worry if I never see them again. I'm not planning on having another child.

Right now though, I have been selling what he outgrows to fund purchasing larger sized diapers because I'm not getting an income right now. But I had several nice people give me hand-me-down baby clothing- like boxes full!-when I was pregnant and I do plan to pay it forward when I can.

Re: Would you loan out your diaper stash

I've loaned out my NB AIOs twice and they've been used on my two kids as well and they still look brand new. My fitteds - no way, but they need "special care".

Re: Would you loan out your diaper stash

I'm letting my sister use my entire newborn stash that I recently bought for a baby we lost (about $5-600 worth). We are TTC again, so hopefully I'll eventually need them. But for now, they are just diapers, so I'd rather see them go to use than just sit in a drawer.

One of my childhood friends is about to have a baby. The dad bailed on her when he found out she was pregnant... So I'm lending her my ergo, infant car seat, newborn clothing, a-a blankets, moby, etc etc...

There are some people in my life that I won't lend to. I think it really depends on the circumstance and the person(s) involved.

Re: Would you loan out your diaper stash

I really don't trust that I would get stuff back, or get it back in the condition I loaned it in. I use mostly prefolds and PUL covers. If I were to loan, it would only be NB size. I didn't use them for that long and she tends to have tiny babies. I don't want to lose them though because we do plan to have at least two more kids. DH doesn't want to loan them at all, not to her anyway. I've loaned her a bunch of maternity clothes already, but I'm ok with not getting back that stuff - I bought it all consignment or thrift store anyway, and she had loaned me all her clothes. DD will be in hand me down clothes until she is 2 with all the hand me downs we've received for her. I'd love to pay it forward, but the fact remains that I plan on needing the stuff again in the next couple years and it would put a serious strain in our relationship if I didn't get it back. Thanks for all the responses. Makes me feel less guilty about not offering.
