Re: Fat baby with chafing

Is it possible she has eczema? It often shows up around 6 months. My second daughter was great until she was about 5.5 months then all of a sudden had random eczema everywhere. It took us a while to figure it out as it wasn't dry, just rough, red and irritated looking, and mainly in all the 'folds'. She improved though by the time she was 1. Anyway... just another thought!

Re: Fat baby with chafing

I know larger people will often use a silicone based lubricant to combat "chub rub". Body glide will work. Just something to think about if the natural options don't work for you.

My sisters would get the same under their triple chins and behind ears. My mother made sure to dry them thoroughly after baths with a hair dryer on low. It kinda makes me think yeast infection on the skin.

Wash and dry well then use cornstarch to help it stay dry.

I'm having the same issue with my 7 week old DS. I am going to try the coconut oil after bathing, since i already use it for his cradle cap.

Re: Fat baby with chafing

If your baby doesn't show a silicone sensitivity, I'd try the Monostat (sp?) Anti-Chaffing Gel. It's designed for preventing chaffing, but I'm not entirely sure I'd try it on a younger baby unless I was desperate and a skin test showed baby wasn't sensitive or allergic to it.
