I guess I have odd kids. By at least three they were both rotating out of theirs at night. Not rolling the whole body, but the bottom half would be dangling off the side. I think they needed extra width to twist around in.

But as long as the child isn't too heavy and sleeps comfortably, I say go for it.

Re: How old is too old for a toddler bed

If they fit in it and still sleep in it - it's fine, IMO. We had to get ds a twin bed at just 3 because everytime he rolled over in his toddler bed he wacked his head and woke up. Length wise he fit fine but he rolls like crazy in his sleep. He stays asleep most of the time in his twin bed (he sometimes wacks his head on the wall but not often). So to us he outgrew the bed but not because of his age.

This. Ds1 slept in a toddler bed until he was almost 4...then we switched him to a rollaway type bed until ds2 was big enough to sleep in a bunk bed. He slept in a toddler bed until he was 5 at my moms house.

Thanks for your replys, the reason I'm asking is my ex has DS who is 5 and a half back in one. DS use to have a twin size bed, and when ex moved this time DS now has a toddler bed with a crib mattress. I worry DS doesn't have enough room in it. He's pretty big for his age, around 50lbs.

Agree. In my case my oldest skipped toddler bed. My second probably could be there for years as she is so tiny. Boy probably not long if he keeps growing like he is as he is 6 weeks old.

I'm pretty sure that our crib mattress (we used a converted crib for a toddler be until 4.5, but she is a shrimpy 35 lbs) is rated up to 50 lbs, so he may just be on the upper end of the weight limit. If he is tall as well, it might not be that comfy for him. That said, I spend a few nights curled in the bed with DD2and it held both of us just fine, if not totally comfortable for me (we weigh 145 together).

I know that our train toddler bed is rated for 50 pounds and my eldest moved out of it around 5 because we needed the crib mattress from it for lil sister. He still fit well. DS2 is in it now at 4.5 and he's happy with it. DD moved out of her Tink toddler bed at about 5.5 (she was 50+ but there wasn't a weight rating on her bed-it had steel bars across the bottom), but that was because of a really messy vomit that got into the mattress. At that point, rather than purchase her a new mattress, we just moved her into the double bed that was already in their room. (DD and DS2 share a room and there were two toddler beds and a double bed in there for a while!)

ETA: I get the ex business as well. IME, this isn't something to put the effort into correcting. Bigger fish to fry and all that.

Does your son complain?

Theres not anything you can do I would just let it go its not a huge deal really.

Atleast he has a bed I know kids that don't have their own bed at the noncustodial parents house and sleep on a couch or such
