throwing other laundry in the diaper load...gross or ok?

I always put "whites" in with my diaper laundry...including kitchen wash rags, napkins, etc. Reason being because I bleach diaper laundry and also because its the only laundry I actually do in a washing machine, rest gets done by hand (we don't have a washer, we use my mom's for diapers) and I feel like they don't get quite as clean by hand.

I do a full hot quick wash with a splash of detergent before doing the full heavy duty hot wash with bleach and detergent, and an extra rinse. So everything is fully clean, right?

It never phased me, or my husband, but I recently thought... is this gross that the cloth that washes my dishes has been in the washing machine with diapers?

Gross or ok?

If I have a couple of random things that need to be washed, I'll throw them in with the diapers after the pre-rinse. Definitely ok IMO

I don't normally wash other things on Hot. But it would be okay.

We use "floor towels" to clean up the bathroom from little boy spray, and clean up after my SN LO throws up (at least 3 times a week ). That stuff always gets thrown in with the diapers.

I wash the kitchen stuff separately, because I practically have a full load from just kitchen unpaper towels, cloth napkins, table cloths and reg. kitchen towels.

Re: throwing other laundry in the diaper load...gross or ok?

We ran out of cloth tissues once and my DH inquired if they could be washed with the diapers. I said, "You're never going to believe this, but yes." And so he did.

And then the next week, he wanted to know if one of the flour sack towels in the kitchen had been a diaper before. *sigh* My mom & sister have both asked the same question before, too.

I find my washer to do a very good job, plus I use bleach occassionally and probably ESPECIALLY if I was washing other things with the diapers. It's all getting clean. So I don't see a problem with it.

If your washer does it's job well and the diapers always come out clean, I don't see why not!

Re: throwing other laundry in the diaper load...gross or ok?

Of course. If everything comes out clean then no issue. If I wasn't positive my cloth was getting clean then no way would I be putting them back on the kids anyway. I don't wash much (diapers, sheets and dish towels) on hot and I typically have a full load with diapers alone so that's the only reason I don't do it more often. But like yesterday DS1 had diarrhea so his pajamas, towels and sheet went in with diapers. Family cloth, mama cloth, toddler underwear, wash cloths, etc. all get washed together with dipes when necessary.

Re: throwing other laundry in the diaper load...gross or ok?

Anything in my house in need of an extra good cleaning gets put into the diaper laundry unless it is enough to make a full load on it's own.

I'm sure many would feel it gross but I don't.

I think it's fine. I will throw stray kitchen rags in with the diapers, or random diapers in with the towels... I also use our wipes to clean my kids' hands and faces. I'm confident that everything gets clean in the wash.
