Yes, there are still many companies who do not cover them, or you have to jump through hoops, or your plan was grandfathered and it doesn't apply. It's great it is a movement toward good, but it isn't readily happening yet.

It wasn't advertised to me at all by UHC, I just happened to be on the phone asking about maternity benefits and the rep asked if I was going to take advantage of the free breastpump. Caught me offguard but I was thrilled to hear about it.

Like I said, not ALL insurance companies will cover it, but a 10 minute phone call that could save you $300 and possibly allow you to breastfeed when you wouldn't otherwise? i am thrilled about that for all other mothers!

One of the accepted diagnosis is "Lactating Mother". And if the script says, "double electric" they have to cover it.

Absolutely call back. The law goes into affect the date that your insurance renews post August 2012. So, when you called they were not subject to the provisions if the law, but will be when it is renewed.

Grandfathered ends when plan is renewed after August 2012. Hoops are requiring a prescription to be faxed in, which if your OB won't write one, find a new OB and then ordering from a durable medical supply company. If I remember correctly the only plans that are not required to cover them are State Run Medicare type plans. All private companies are required to, they just aren't advertising that benefit.

Some insurance companies are excluded. Im part of a union and they are not required to cover one.

Also if your having trouble finding a DME to get the pump see if you have an Apria location near you they did mine when none of my small town local companies would.
