38 week ultrasound- how accurate is the weight estimate?

I know that the weight estimates from an ultrasound can be off by a lot, but what I am wondering is if, in your experience, did your baby turn out to be bigger than the estimate or smaller?

my late ultrasounds were always pretty accurate personally...

My sil just had twins, they were off. I think I heard it can be 1 lb either way?

Re: 38 week ultrasound- how accurate is the weight estimate?

I've heard +/- 2lbs is the window they give. That's a pretty big window, IMO.

Hmm... I had a late u/s with DD, 36 weeks I think - the OB was exactly right on his weight estimate... but he was amazing
DS1 had a 36ish week one - it was off, but I can't remember exactly how much, or even which way.
DS2 we had a couple quick scans the week he was delivered, but they were just to check positioning, so no estimates or measurements were taken.
DS3 I had a scan at 41+2 - the OB tried to tell me he was "well over 9lbs" (she was really pressuring me to have her do an immediate c-sec ). He was born 2 days later at 8lbs 14oz.

Ive had both.

At 34w4 days they measures DD5 at 4 pounds 1 ounce. She was born less than 24 hours later and was 6 pounds 1 ounce. (My peri did the measurment but didnt deliver)

DD 7 was measured less than 24 hours before birth and my OB did it. He got 8 pounds 13 ounces. She was 8 pounds 14 ounces.

Very accurate, I had a U/S done a couple days before ds was born- he measured 7lbs 2oz and he was born 7lbs 3oz.

But I wonder how much of it was from the fluids they pumped into me during labor?

I didn't have one at 38 weeks but I did have one right at 40 weeks and delivered 3 days later. My u/s was way off. They estimated baby to be 9.5 lbs at 40 weeks but he was a little less than 7.5 lbs. my OB said that he was much smaller than the u/s estimated though, based on her assessments of the measurements.

I had an ultrasound done at 37 weeks due to GD. Baby's estimated weight was 7 1/2 lbs. He was born 1 day shy of 40 weeks at 8 lbs, 4 oz, so I'd say it was fairly accurate.
