Re: 38 week ultrasound- how accurate is the weight estimate?

I am 38w today and they estimated her weight 11 days ago to be 7lbs 1oz
if she follows protocol and gains an ounce a day, that would make her 8 pounds next Saturday at my scheduled C-Section, a full 2 pounds bigger than my other 2 girls.

I didn't have a sweight ultrasound that close to delivery with dd. But my sister had one with her daughter 3 days before her c section, they said 6 lbs 14 oz, she was 6 lbs 1 oz. So almost a lb off.

Re: 38 week ultrasound- how accurate is the weight estimate?

I had a 36 week one with both my first and second and it was off. My son weighed close to nine pounds supposedly but was born a few days later weighing 7lbs, 12 oz. I had an ultrasound about four days before my daughter was born and it said she was right at seven pounds or so but a few days later she was born at 8lbs, 12oz.

I was talked into an induction with DS1 because he was going to be 8.5+. He was 7lbs exactly with a big head lol.

Not I'm my case. With dd I was induce at 36w6d and they estimated her at 9lbs 3oz the same day. She was born the next day at 37w at 7lbs 3oz. With ds1 the ultrasound I had the day he was born was 2oz off. And with ds2 the last US I had put him at 7lbs13oz. He was born a few days later at 9lbs 6oz.

Re: 38 week ultrasound- how accurate is the weight estimate?

My office does 36 week ultrasounds (works for me since I have only made it to 38 weeks once and just barely!)

#1 and #2 were very accurate (different techs and offices too) and #3 was way off. About 3 days before she was born they said she was just over 5lbs. So we were expecting a baby in the 5lb range, she was 6lb 7oz.

My first two were pretty spot on. They were both estimated around 8 1/2 4 weeks before delivery, and with half a pound a week, that equals 10 1/2, and they were both 10lbs 7oz, so almost spot on.
With my third, I think the last one we did was 38 weeks and it was 8 1/2, he was born at 39 weeks and was 8lbs 12oz.

About a week before I had my son, they estimated himTo be about 7 pounds and that he would weigh about 7 1/2 pounds when he was born. He ended up weighing 6 pounds exactly, so it wasn't accurate at all with him.

Re: 38 week ultrasound- how accurate is the weight estimate?

At 40 weeks DS was estimated to be 11lbs 2oz. he was born 12 hours later at 11lbs 7 oz so it was only 5 oz off, it was my OB doing the ultrasound not a tech. So to me that was pretty accurate.
