6 yo complaining of leg pain

ODD has been saying off and on for the last couple weeks that her legs hurt. Usually it has been after she has been in trouble for fighting with her brother so we chalked it up to her trying to get sympathy. Since Friday she has had a fever (about 102) off and on, controlled with ibuprofen as needed. She hasn't had a fever since yesterday but has been saying her legs hurt all over beginning last night. Today she is saying she can't walk and is bow legged when she does. Of course if her brother is bothering her she is capable of running away. I plan on calling her ped in the morning but was curious if any one else has had this happen. Could it be "growing pains" that happen to coincide with a fever or something else?

Re: 6 yo complaining of leg pain

I would go to the ped. I would be worried about the fever and the leg pain together. But that is just me.

My Ds had this same problem last week after several days of a fever actually and the Ped had me take him to the ER. He had Influenza B, low calcium and elevated liver enzymes. He couldn't walk at all one day and then his feet and hand started going numb which is when they advised us to go in ASAP. He had a hard time walking the next day as well but was able to get around better and was fine within 2 days.

Re: 6 yo complaining of leg pain

When my eldest ds was 6/7 he complained of leg pains, not associated with any other symptoms though. He would hobble round in the morning which is when it seemed worst. He sleeps on the top bunk and a couple of times practically fell down the ladder.
Sometimes one leg, occasionally both. Official diagnosis from the doc and our chiro was 'growing pains'. He hasn't had them for a long while now actually.

I would be a little worried with it coinciding with the fever. And being so consistent...my boys have leg aches often but they don't present the same as your dd.

If it were me I'd be double checking just to make sure.

I knew a child who had frequent leg pain and fevers. The doctors kept telling the parents that it was growing pains or attention. Finally she was diagnosed with cancer. It was so sad and could have had a better outcome if shed been diagnosed sooner :-(

I'd have the ped check for lyme too if you live in an area with ticks.

Her leg pain is all cleared up! DH was convinced it was just muscle strain because they had gone for an expedition in the woods the day before the fever so he didn't take her in. That was monday, by tuesday she wasn't complaining of any thing at all. Even went hiking on Thursday. Her little sister is currently sick with exactly the same symptoms (w/o the leg pain) as ODD so I guess the fever is related to some kind of bug. I am keeping my eye on her and will take her in myself if it keeps happening.
