Re: S/O Names - when should babyish pet names retire?

I still call my 10 year old girl KK. Her friends and a couple of teachers do as well, although it's not super embarrassing or anything.

We call our 6 year old Mashy. When he started kindergarten, he expressed that he didn't want us to call him that in front of his teacher and school friends, but I think he has forgotten because sometimes we do out of habit.

I will be 37 this year, and my dad still balls me Biscuit.

He has decided to call my DW Beignet (a little French donut) and our son Timbit (a donut hole from Tim Hortons). I think he has a thing for baked goods!

at the child's request? I think some people don't care and even like their nicknames. I don't believe they should be used in front of strangers, at school ect unless the child uses it and asks to be called it. My kids are, Hoots, Eggy, and Roo. Only the middle child (Eggy, lol) has expressed to not be called that in anyone elses earshot but does like it at home. :P

I plan to start using his real name more and more as he starts to talk. Hopefully phasing out the nickname by 3 or 4. Hah wishful thinking.

I call Jake, Bubba, still at almost 16. He is the only child of mine with a nick name that was not part of his name. It used to be Bubba-do. It got shortened as he grew up. He does not seem to mind it.

Probably some time after 5 she'll start asserting herself and insisting you use her name. DD1 has different nicknames. We call her Lily bug or boo boo. The principal at her preschool calls her Lily bear. If I call her Lily bug at school she calmly informs me she's a Lily best at school. She's 3.

Well ds nIckname is Beasly because he's Beastly and it just fit. If we had known we would have named him that instead of Brett and Emmy will go by Emmy until she says otherwise

Re: S/O Names - when should babyish pet names retire?

I agree with when they ask. My 11 year old's nickname is one that evolved from her infant nickname. My 10 year old's has been around since he was 1ish. The 5 year old's evolved from infancy, and the 2 year old is the same as when he was a infant.
