Vit D for 1 year old

We're getting ready to move to Seattle and I want to supplement DD with Vitamin D. Anyone have a recommendation of a brand and amount?

I don't know but we live in Wisconsin and my kids have never needed it. All you need is 5 minutes of outside sun a day to get what you need (I think). I have to supplement and I take 5000 IUs a day. I have no idea for a baby.

Sorry, that probably wasn't helpful LOL.

I'm from Seattle and we can go months without seeing 5 minutes of Sun. I took 10000 IUs of vitamin D when I was there last and pregnant.

I would talk to your child's Pediatrician and find out whether they recommend supplementing without checking levels of Vit. D.

My DH has been laid off w/o health insurance for 4 months, so we don't have a ped here nor yet in Seattle. Any Northwest moms want to weigh? I think people who haven't ever lived there don't understand how little sun Seattle gets.
I'm concerned about her missing out on vit d while we get settled and find a ped.

Re: Vit D for 1 year old

We use the Rugby or Rx Choice Tri-vitamin drops (they also make a version that's just vitamin D). They contain the same vitamin content as the drops made by Enfamil (Tri-vi-sol or D-vi-sol), but without any artificial colors.

Re: Vit D for 1 year old

We did the tri vi sol very infrequently with two of the kids. I figured they got enough from being outside anyway. Even just bringing the kids to the bus stop alone is 15-20 mins a day which is more than enough for vit d, esp as we are pale and I believe absorb it better than darker skinned?

My new dr does not recommend supplements at all for the babies/kids which is nice as I never really went along with it anyway.

Wouldn't you be getting some decent sunlight now that it's coming into spring/summer though? I can see maybe in the winter.....

Agree with this.. having a prescription first would be safer...they will calculate your babies weight/height/age to determine the amount of Vitamins she can take.
