I need to start potty training

My oldest son is 2.5 yrs and I'm just now thinking of potty training. I don't want to use Pull Ups because it doesn't seem like it would be any different than a regular disposable diaper. I don't really want to put just big boy underwear on him either. So what could I use that would contain the mess but allow him to feel uncomfortable and be motivated to use the big boy potty?

I've used blueberry trainers, antsy pants, and bububibi. Only the antsy pants were waterproof. The others reduce mess

Did you use these full time or only when you were working with him/her to potty train? I'm a working mom so I'm not home with him all day. I'll be working on this in the evenings and weekends. We're starting with a new sitter tomorrow so I'm not sure what level of "support" she'll be giving when it comes to potty training. I'm hoping she'll be really helpful but if I just have to do it on my own then I will.

I used fitteds with DD. I just didn't put them right so they could be pulled up and down easily.
