Premie size prefolds - worth it?

I have been going back and forth on whether to spend the $$ on premie size prefolds.

DD #1 was just under 7 lbs with short legs and a short rise. She was relatively slow growing compared to some other kiddos in our mom's groups. She wore nb size clothes for at least 8-10 weeks.

I'm only 15 weeks along in this pregnancy, but baby was measuring small from the first ultrasound and and I'm not really even showing yet. So, I want to be prepared for another baby the size of my daughter.

So, what do y'all think about premie size prefolds? Worth it? I've read a lot about using them as doublers which increases their appeal, but I'm still not sure if they are necessary if I am going to have nb size prefolds as well. (Planning to shop at GMD).

Re: Premie size prefolds - worth it?

My son fit the preemie prefolds but out soaked an traditional sized infant prefold( the 4x8x4 ones) in an hour or less. The preemie prefolds would have been laughable. I doubt they would have held even one pee.

On the other hand I love our preemie prefolds in the kitchen for dish cloths, hot pads, and wrapping around a drippy sandwich.

My daughter was tiny so when pregnant with my Son I bought 24 preemie
PFs and did not use them as he was not only huge!! But also a heavy wetter!
BUT they are awesome to have in a pile on the change table. I put them under his bum and grab them for those 'ooh just got my diaper off' pees I love them and am so glad I have them

Maybe try the Imagine xs prefolds instead. A little wider and thicker but just as short in the rise.

They make awesome doublers and wipes. They are also great to use in the kitchen or for baths. You will find a use for them even if you don't need them for the intended purpose.

Re: Premie size prefolds - worth it?

I had some preemies for my son who was 9.3 at birth - the thought of using them as diapers was laughable (lol, NBs only fit him for a week or so) BUT they came in so handy for other things - doublers, wipe rags, pads for changing to keep poop off the changing table, etc. I also still use them for cleaning. I'd probably plan a main stash of NB size, but order a dozen preemies too just in case you need a trim backup for the first little while.

Re: Premie size prefolds - worth it?

We didn't use them all that often for diapers, though they were very nice to have those first few days. But five years later, we're still using them, so they are definitely worth the investment to me. We did use them as doublers some, but right now they make great napkins for the kids and do wonderfully on spill control.

They also make great mama cloth pads down the road.

Re: Premie size prefolds - worth it?

I don't know what premie prefolds I had, but they were amazing! If we ever have another miracle baby I'll be sad I sold them. They were 3X5X3. The only problem with them was they could only be snappied for a short amount of time before my tubby girl was too wide. I agree that the 2X4X2 ones are pretty useless, they just don't hold enough.
