High school babysitter pay

Hw much do you pay high school age babysitters?

My 13 and 15 year old nieces have been doing some babysitting for us here and there. Its usually 1-2 hours at the time in the afternoon with no meals involved. I generally just give them a bit of cash, whatever's on hand, $10-20. Sometimes they both come, sometimes its just one of them. We've never discussed a pay rate because its been so infrequent and unplanned. Soon I'm going to start using them more often and told them I'd pay them weekly for accumulated hours. It will generally be twice a week for about two hours until June, then we'd add in one 6 hour stint once a week a well. Pay will be based on hours of babysitting, not number of them that show up. Of more of them come (they have other siblings as well), its up to them to figure out how to split up the money. I will probably only use the 13 year old alone for the shorter shifts.

Re: High school babysitter pay

We pay ours $7-8/hour for three kids. Seems to be the going teenage rate around here. (We live in a moderate cost of living area.)

ETA: Our babysitters are about 15 years old. Also our kids LOVE babysitters and are generally well behaved for them so it's not a really tough job. The sitters always seem eager to sit for us again so I think it must be a fair rate for the work.

Re: High school babysitter pay

I think $7-8 an hour for 2 kids sounds fair. I have 5, including one in diapers so I pay $10 an hour. I am going to be working more this summer and I have one day a girl is coming to watch my kids from 7:30-4:30 (I'm home for an hour at lunch). We are going to pay her $100/day.

I think if you have to do diaper duty, you should get a bit more than if you don't. My

I had been thinking of offering $8. I figure, minimum wage here is just over $9, shes not paying taxes, and I'm driving her back and forth most of the time. DH thinks we should offer more.

The 15 year old told me whatever we wanted to pay was fine, but I want to give her enough to make it worth her time, you know? She's going to be our primary sitter, but her younger sister can sub in for her for the shorter shifts. Sometimes they bring their 10 year old sister or 11 month old brother too.

Re: High school babysitter pay

Most of them here charge $5 an hour per kid...so if we left all three of ours, it would run us $15 an hour. BUT we would be leaving our three with a set of two sisters, and they split the pay, so I guess they're each technically just making $7.50 an hour between the three kids, which is about minimum wage?

Going rate here is $10 an hour. I pay $100 a day if it is an all day job longer than 10 hours.
