Re: Kids and motorcycles

Over my cold, dead body.

I'm fine with my kids riding on ATVs now with DH or I - maybe dirt bikes when they're older - but motorcycles? On a public road with texters and trucks and drunks and deer? Hell to the no.

Re: Kids and motorcycles

My dd is going to start riding with her Dad this summer (she's 11) once we buy her a helmet. My boys will probably start riding around the same age. Both my DH and I ride, but I'm not comfortable with a passenger so riding with me is out. We all ride ATTGATT (all the gear, all the time) so we feel pretty confident in letting our kids ride with DH.

Re: Kids and motorcycles

I was 13 when I first rode with my dad. I still go with him. I'm not sure when I'd let my kids go (oldest is now 6). I don't think dh and I would have a problem with it as long as they are big enough. Probably around 13. I grew up with bikes, DH didn't.

My oldest is 11 and we have recently started looking into getting him all the safety equpment he needs to be able to ride with DH. He will only be aloud short local rides for the first few years and then we will see from there.

He was putting my 5 yr old on the back of his, which didn't even have a seat back. No way jose. We now have it signed by a judge that she may not ride til she is 18. Of course, down the road, I may change my mind, but I don't trust him because he is a new rider and isn't very responsible, but we shall see. I could see if it was just around the block/neighborhood, but he was driving through the city streets, which let me tell you- aren't safe for anyone here! Ppl in Georgia suck at driving!

Nope, never. Not until he's 18 and can legally choose it himself. All the gear, all the time, isn't going to save you in a bad accident on a motorcycle. You can survive a pretty bad accident in a car.

And it has nothing to do with exposure - my dad, brother, mom, and DHs only brother all ride. A ton of DHs friends do and many family friends I know do as well.

Probably not until 16 when they can buy one and legally drive it themselves
