So my son just has a seizure......... :'(

And I am a MESS

Please can anyone tell me what to expect, what is happening and any advice would be greatly appreciated. I can't stop crying for my baby. He is 16 months old, I had a very rough pregnancy and he was born 5 weeks early. He had similar episodes when he was born up until about 9 months old but they were classified as "breathing episodes" on my daughter's birthday last year he turned blue, had seizure-like symptoms and I had to do cpr and call 911 The face he made and the way he shook reminded me of that very same moment. The worst picture of my life. I posted about this a long time ago and here is the thread on that if you want to read up on details: http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/....php?t=1435022

Re: So my son just has a seizure......... :'(

my youngest ds had many seizures at 3.5, but it was due to trauma. honestly, expect things to be slow to figure out. especially if doctors are unsure as to why they are happening in the first place.

given that my situation was different, i don't really have any helpful advice to give you, but i understand what you are going through. it is extremely scary.

Thank you I was assuming so, as I do believe that is what was happening before as well but they're starting up again. I don't know how I'm going to handle this. It looks so incredibly scary and he looks so helpless it literally...tears me up and breaks my heart

Are you at the hospital? He needs a complete workup. Common things are EEG, sleep study, nuerologist etc.

Did someone confirm it was a seizure?

So sorry! I know how scary these things can be.

He had a full workup when he was seen at the children's hospital about 8 months ago. The doctor couldn't do much without our pediatricians call and approval. Our pediatrician is calling the specialists that Cole saw at the children's hospital to see what they suggest today. We are back at home now but we were at the e.r. all morning. It says seizure on the discharge paper so I'm assuming it was confirmed? I'm not so sure

Re: So my son just has a seizure......... :'(

I had episodes when I was a baby, I turned blue one day when I was nursing and had to be on a monitor when sleeping. They never found anything wrong with me though. Then from the time I was 4 until I was 8 I had 1-2 grand mal seizures a year, usually in response to trauma like my little brother pinched my tongue, I was kicked in the back, having blood work done. They never found the reasons for those either and I had tons of test done on my heart, my brain, my blood...nothing.

I hope they can find out what is going on with your little boy. In the meantime try not to worry!

Thank you! That is a little reassuring. They didn't find anything with him when he was a newborn/infant either which is making me think/hopefully it will be the same outcome.

I'm sorry mama. I have no advice but I'd be so upset and crying too.

Well that's scary. So he had an EEG 8 months ago? Sometimes EEGs don't show seizure activity so they do a sleep deprived EEG. Any chance he hasn't had much sleep the past few days? Sometimes seizures happen because of lack of sleep in someone with a seizure disorder. I had seizures as a child and have episodes when I don't sleep for more than 6 hours.

I would demand a full workup with a neurologist. It isn't fair that they are not giving you answers. I can't believe they just sent you home! . Here they would admit and do testing in hospital for a diagnosis for sure.
