Re: Basically it's Friday!

Morning mamacitas. I had coffee alone in my room again today. For ten minutes. I still consider that a success.

Janine, the flat looks awesome. I cannot believe you fit four beds in there. I was sure that was the other room.

Kari, ten or so years ago, I was called to jury duty on the day they were going to select the jury for the Texas Railroad killer. IDK if you guys remember, he basically killed hobos on the railways in many states, and as usual all the other states deferred him to Texas trial so he could be executed. Luckily, it was Friday and most cases avoid picking jurors on Fridays, so if you are called on a Friday you are more likely to be sent home. So I got lucky and got to go home without even having to act crazy or pretend like I was already prejudiced.

Re: Basically it's Friday!

The little nook is much bigger than you'd think. We're going to custom-build a (bigger than his toddler bed...that is only 70cmx140cm) bed for him in it. It's 93cmx169cm That's a pretty big bed for a little kid. It should fit him for several years...and when he's done with it we'll get him a different bed and change that corner into a little reading nook.

Ok, time to get ready. Heiner will be making a lot of noise (and that's not good for Fynn) and dust (which is really not good for Fynn or me) so we're planning on not being here while that's happening.

Re: Basically it's Friday!

Yeah, Janine, some states will give you a legally-bound free pass if you are the primary daytime caregiver of a younger than school age child or an adult invalid and are otherwise not employed, but there is no free pass for nursing a baby in and of itself. Although often you can try to use that, or like in Kari's case she works but mostly evenings so she is the daytime primary caregiver, and they can decide to give you a pass, but it's not legally guaranteed. Basicallly the law is set up that you can't use work as an excuse, because most people do work, and there are laws that prevent you from being fired as a result of missing work serving as a juror. So if you are empoyed in any capacity it is hard to get out of it.

That being said, the key is not being selected for a jury. Anyone see that 30 Rock episode where Liz shows up for jury duty selection in her Princess Leia costume?

Re: Basically it's Friday!

Ian's new thing is to answer any question with "You don't need to know." Then tell me anyway. It took me a long time to figure it out, then I remembered two weeks ago he asked me AGAIN how much I weigh. Not that I am embarrassed about my weight or anything, but telling him opens up him telling every single random stranger this without any context. So I told him no and various reason why, etc and the 4yo persistence finally led me to "You don't need to know."
