Depends on the size of baby My 6 and 7 pounders all wore preemie. My 7.13 wore newborn.

5 of mine wore newborn. (All 7-8 pounds). 1 was in preemie (6 pounds) and my 8.13 wore 0-3 for a week. She jumped right into 6-9 after the first week.

Re: What size clothing did your full-term LO come home in?

Came home in nb, both of my last 2 were 7 lbs 1 oz and the nb were big on them, but only for the first week, my 8 lb 5 oz fit great in nb. I would buy a preemie if I was doing pics in the hospital, even though that may be the only time it gets worn.

Re: What size clothing did your full-term LO come home in?

Nb fit two of my four. I would be safe and take 0-3. My last ds all we had to take him home in was nb and while it was cute that he was kinda popping all the buttons out, I wished I'd thought to ask dh to bring something bigger. Or just pack one of each size. Unless you push out a 10+ pounder I would say it would be very unlikely 3-6mos would fit. Grandma has to remember that the clothing makers (and babies) have changed tremendously in the last 30 years. There was a time where a 5lb baby was considered "average".

DD was 8.1. when we brought her home, she wore newborn for about 4 weeks. my DN was 6.1. and wore premie, she swam in NB size for a long while. i could not imagine a baby being big enough for 3-6 at birth, or 6-9.

DS was 9 lb 14.5 oz. He came home squeeed into a newborn outfit and whrn I got home I immediately put him in 0-3 months.
Can you tell hes my first? Lol. I only packed newborn in my bag because I did not expect a 10 pound baby.

DS1 was 6lbs 2.5 at 40w6d and wore premie.

DS2 was 7lbs 7.5 at 39w6d and wore NB and 0-3 was loose.

Depending on the brand (fits smaller or larger) it can vary, but I doubt average sizing 3-6 would do much short of swallow the kiddo whole. And unless your DH was 10+ I seriously doubt 3-6 much less 6-9. My 7mo can't even wear 6-9m yet, and he's probably around 13lbs now. My oldest was 20lbs at 6m and was just into 6-9m then.

I wouldn't go above 0-3 honestly unless the brand ran small.

You could put a little baby in an adult T shirt if you really wanted to. It wouldn't look right, but it's possible.

I think that gown styles and short sleeves/pants can be worn a size or two larger. Just bring all 3 outfits with you and choose one when you can play dress up with the baby.
