8lbs 15 oz and 22" long and he wore NB home. Your MIL is nuts or likes babies swimming in clothing. I don't like loose clothes on newborns, so even though most NB says "up to 7 lbs" or so, I like the fit better than the "right" size.

I used NB for about a month mixed in with 0-3 which had room to grow in.

Re: What size clothing did your full-term LO come home in?

My oldest was 7lbs 3ozs and easily wore nb stuff (was 20.5 inches long). My youngest was 8lbs 9ozs and could wear some nb stuff but fit mostly in 0-3 stuff because a lot of the nb stuff was too short for him (22inches long). I cannot see a nb in 6-9 month clothes unless you are talking a very large baby. Tharen was in 3-6 within a few weeks and 6-9 before he was 3months old.

You didn't find the nb stuff too short through the body? I couldn't get Tharen's body into things like sleepers if they were nb size but then he and dh are both all torso so that may have something to do with it. I liked gowns and those fit for much longer.

Re: What size clothing did your full-term LO come home in?

Full term babies and both came home in 0-3mo clothing. First was 9lb 13oz. Second baby was 10lb 11oz. Both could fit 3-6 month clothing by 4 weeks old.

Both of mine were 39 weekers. The oldest didn't have a prayer of wearing NB and only squeezed into 0-3 for 2 weeks. She was 9lbs 10oz and 23". My youngest probably would have fit in preemie clothes, but I didn't have any and only a handful of newborn clothes until a friend donated a bunch to her. she was 7lbs 2oz and 20". I wasnt expecting such a tiny baby after her sister had been so huge.

Re: What size clothing did your full-term LO come home in?

My 7#4oz came home in 0-3, but he was swimming in it! 6#6oz came home in preemie, and 7#5oz came home in nb. I'm planning to take one preemie and one nb this time.

DD was 41.5 weeks but only 5lbs 13oz, so we scrambled to get some preemie clothes for her. She came home in the newborn outfit we brought for her, even though she swam in it. I would get something in each size-preemie and newborn, in case you have an itty bitty bitty like I did.

We never brought NB for any of ours.

No, not at all. As a FTM I listened to all those who said not to be like those FTM's who spent a fortune on Nb clothes, so we didn't get hardly any and I ended up actually buying some sleepers for bedtime. I did not like the way 0-3 tended to bunch up under his chin.

Ironically, I had a bunch of gowns because my mom swore by them. But he wiggled so much that they always bunched up around his waist leaving his legs cold and exposed, it drove me nuts lol so we didn't really use them.
