Re: bleach

Most people will say don't use bleach at all, but I believe occasional bleach is necessary to keep away the stinkies even in natural fibers. Most covers should never be washed with bleach, I have washed my prefolds and natural fiber fitteds with bleach every 3 months or so. You should only use a couple tablespoons for a whole load. If you ever end up with ammonia issues, I really think bleach is the only way to really get rid of it, esp in microfiber which is almost impossible to really keep clean!

I use it, I can't get toddler diapers clean enough without it. When my washer is filling for the initial rinse cycle, I add a splash of bleach. Let it fill 1/2 way then add the diapers. I do this so its totally diluted before the diapers get in there to avoid it negatively affecting one diaper that got too much.
When I had a front loader, I used a pitcher, filled it with water and bleach and then added it to my dispenser slowly for the same reason. I don trust undiluted bleach near the diapers (or my clothes).
I've never had any issues from it. Diapers never get ammonia, never stink, my kiddos never get rashes, and my diapers get clean. I never affected PUL or Elastic or any other diaper the way I use it. Diapers I had for year stoll going strong.

Re: bleach

I use oxygen bleach (sun brand) every once in a while for my cotton prefolds.

Even bum genius recommends using bleach every once in awhile, 1/3 of a cup. I have a front loader and there's a spot for bleach, it mixes it in with water so it doesn't just go straight on anything.

Re: bleach

I use bleach in every load, with all of my diapering items. I add 1/4 cup pre-diluted bleach to my cold prewash. Have not noticed any extra wear or functioning issues as a result. And I never have stinkies or rashes!

Re: bleach

I use 1/4 cup of bleach in every load for my 2.5yr old's diapers. Starting about 6m ago I just could not get them clean w/ our usual wash routine. I do a quick cold prewash where I add the bleach 1st, let the washer fill 1/2 way, & then add the diapers. I do my usual wash routine after that (hot wash w/ Allen's & 2 cold rinses) & never smell any bleach on them when they come out of the washer. I use all OS fitteds & have only caused fading a couple times, but the problem was I did not let the washer fill enough to dilute the bleach before I added the diapers. I've not noticed any other excessive wear or bad elastic from using the small amount of bleach in every load.

Re: bleach

I have not found anything in my stash to be negatively affected over time by bleach. I don't use it every time, but almost. My diapers are mostly all cotton and PUL.

The only thing that comes to mind that might be affected are dyed diapers or dark colored inners or fitteds.

I bleach every load. Only downside I've found is that a specific fitted that originally had a black velour inner now has a light brown velour inner that looks kind of odd with the rest of the diaper. Still completely functional, though.
