Re: What would you do?

Wow. I had never heard of a papoose board. that is disturbing. I can understand for a person with SN if there's absolutely no other way to administer treatment needed for serious health issues, but the idea of using that in general really disturbs me.

I don't think I would have cavities filled in a young child WITHOUT nitrous. A bad experience would potentially affect a lifetime of needed dentistry. A papoose board would not even be an option to me.

Re: What would you do?

I would find someone else or pay out of pocket, I would not let them do the board. The dentist is someone she is going to have to see regularly for the rest of her life and that kind of experience would probably instill fear of them from here on.

ETA- dd has a filling, she freaked out at the consult so they said they wouldn't so it without nitrous and they gave her a small dose of Valium as well. She has no fear of the dentist since she has no reasonable memory of the procedure.

Could be they aren't licensed for it. In KY and not sure about SD (where i am now) they have to have special licensing for nitrous and general.

IMO I would find a dentist that takes the insurance if at all possible and make sure they will do the nitrous. You can ask when you call the dentist. Get the names of Dentists and Dental surgeons in your area covered by insurance and start calling. In KY it was only the surgeons that had nitrous and general. Normal Dentists just did novacaine.
I would not do silver in her teeth unless I couldn't find a way to do the other. Even baby teeth.
Good luck! I hope you find someone quickly!

Are the cavities hurting her? Is she in pain?

Re: What would you do?

Ask around locally and look up reviews. I put an iso for a pediatric dentist in my area that accepts our insurance and other local moms replied and recommended a few, I looked up reviews and chose one and my kids are going next week.
My dd1 is sn and I asked about the board, this office doesn't use them and if she won't let the dentist do the work needed, he will send her to another office to lightly sedate her to get it done.

Also I m wondering if the insurance you have doesn't cover the nitrous, I'd ask about that too. Last time I went, it cost $90 for it, but I don't have dental insurance.
