calling all professional cervix checkers!

all of you professional cervix checkers...

so, i just felt around up there a bit ago... and, it's weird. it feels softer, though cervix is still firm-ish. but, it's like... the opening is flat. like this ____, instead of like a tiny hole (o) in the middle. it doesn't feel open, in fact, it still feels pretty tightly closed, but if i could reach a little higher, i could get a finger in there, i think. anyone wanna take any guesses? what the heck does this mean?

After you have had babies your cervix has a slit instead of a hole.

Not a professional checker here, by any stretch, but my guess would be that you're effacing, not dilating yet...? When do you see your ob again? Will he check?

This. My cervix has been slit shaped instead of a o since I had my first.

Re: calling all professional cervix checkers!

hmmm... :/ so that means i'm not dilated, then - if i can feel that it's a slit, and that the top and bottom are still "together"

weird!

because, when i checked it about 6 weeks ago, it felt like puckered lips. a furry donut, if you will, and closed. now it feels soft, much more like baby soft skin, and a squished donut, instead of a regular donut.

ah hell, i give up

i am 37+2. dr will check me at my next appt at 37+6.

Once you are dilated its almost impossible to miss. Your fingertip will fit in the OS of the cervix and you will feel the membranes and your babies presenting part (usually head). Your cervix is normally about as long as your fingertip to first knuckle. As it thins out and opens it will be easier to feel the membranes.

It sounds like you are effaced a little but closed. The cervix changes throughout the day in position and texture so I wouldn't go on that by any means.

I read somewhere I think that dilation can change, no?

Maybe your cervix is thinning out (effacing) but is still closed.

Re: calling all professional cervix checkers!

blah. there has to be change (i don't think effacement is enough) in order for my dr. to induce me at 39 weeks. if there's no change, there's no telling how long he will make me wait.
