Pre-term labor

Just curious, if you had preterm labor contractions and were put on bed rest did you make it to your due date? Or go early?

My midwife said it could be either at this point so I'm just wondering what others experienced I'm on procardia and bed rest

Re: Pre-term labor

I went at 37wks. 2dys......I had the steroid shot to mature the lungs week 32. Bedrest began hardcore at week 34, but I had been taking it easy since ab 32 wks. I had begun to dilate as of week 34, but cervical changes started at week 32. I was told to start moving around some after I reached 36 weeks. He was born completely healthy on April 5, 2013, at 7 lbs. 6 oz. and 18.75 in. Bedrest helped him gain the weight needed for early birth. He is still doing great. Good luck Mama! How far along are you?

NM, I saw in your siggy. If it makes you feel better, all my contractions began about where you are now. I believe I was 29-30 weeks when I started having issues.

That's good to hear! I'm not dilated as of now so that's a good sign! They said we will probably do the steroid shots soon

Re: Pre-term labor

i thought it was only considered PTL if your cervix was changing? how can it be PTL if you aren't dilated? doesn't that mean there's not a risk of going into labor?

NOT being snarky, please don't take it that way. i an genuinely curious.

I don't know, they just told me it was ptl, the cntx are pretty strong for 27-29 weeks and the only way they stop is with bed rest and procardia. Maybe they're trying to prevent ptl more so than that's what it is now, they said my cervix had thinned but I wasn't dilated

To my understanding, ptl is contractions that cause any CHANGE in your cervix, not necessarily dilation. Cervical shortening is how mine started.....dilation and effacement came later.

That's how mine have been. I had the betamethsone shot at 32 weeks. I'm now 33 weeks. I'm still at a 2 and haven't had any changes since 31 weeks other than shortening and softening. I'm on B/R and procardia as well. My doctor said they will no longer stop contractions after 34 weeks. So I'm praying he bakes as long as he can. Hugs and prayers for a healthy baby for both of us! Hopefully your LO will stay put, too!
