Trouble with Ergo and 2mo old: UPDATE-5.5MO AND DOING GREAT!!!!

Can't get my son to consistently like this thing. So frustrating bc life would be so much better if I could wear him more. He refuses to be put down but usually hates being worn.

I'm using the insert. I don't like it. I have a feeling he feels like his feet are squished? Or I can't get his legs in the right position? And then sometimes his feet sneak into the waistband which doesn't seem good. If I do get him to stay in it for a while he has to be asleep. And his face gets plastered into my chest in a fierce way. And then when he wakes up he cries like crazy...like he is in pain.
And I'll complain about the insert being hot like everyone else does...his face always has a heat rash where its plastered against my chest.

When can he sit with his legs on either side of me rather than in froggie position?
And he's big - at two months was 14lbs, 24.5". And now at nearly 10wks his head control is getting pretty good. When can I ditch the insert?

I don't use the insert with my 13lb 12 weeker. I used to roll a blanket up and set in bottom of ergo before putting him in to raise his head higher above top but now I don't even use that. He still frogs his legs up though.

Could you fold the bottom once and flip the clips like on the boba 3G or a Mai tai???

Re: Trouble with Ergo and 2mo old

I always used my Ergo when my kids were older babies, but my friend always faced her newborns sideways in the insert so they weren't facing her front.

I don't use the insert for my 3m old. He would sit frog legged with his feet down and they end up in the waistband or he straightens his legs and pushes himself up so I feel like I need to support his upper body so he doesn't flip back. I ditched the ergo until he gets bigger and love using a wrap now. He loves it to and it was so worth it. I'm able to do dishes, laundry, and tend to my other kids so much easier.

I'm having that experience too! Sounds familiar. Yes, I'm getting the feeling that the Ergo will come in very handy a bit later.

I have gone to see a babywearing expert several times. Both times I was told my newborns legs can most definitely be "wrapped around" my front rather than frogged. Both my younger two would do exactly as you described with the legs and wake up screaming something awful.
Try wearing him with his body in a sit position, legs spread. When I used a mei tai I would even slightly fold or pinch together the fabric to make baby fit better, but you don't have to. It is funny to see just the edges of their feet sticking out by your sides.

Re: Trouble with Ergo and 2mo old

Ergo is my BEST friend with older babies / toddlers, I start around 4ish months and put a folded blanket in the bottom to get their heads "kissing level" which is a baby wearing rule. Until then I use a moby or ring sling. Hold on to it and try again in a couple months

Re: Trouble with Ergo and 2mo old

just wanted to update things - my son is now 5.5 months and we are doing GREAT in the Ergo! I just want to inspire others who are having trouble to keep trying,

so like someone here suggested, i put Ergo away for a while and waited. when he got big enough to ride on my back (a month ago), i tried it and he was FINE for 15 whole min. i continued to do a little more each day.

now we go shopping, go for walks, do housework. i also put him on after feedings as a way to keep him upright. in general, riding on my back mellows him out if he is overstimulated. he really likes to watch the world back there (and chew on the edge of the fabric).
sooooo happy! keep tryin mamas - i was about to toss the thing!
