suggestions please

I am asking my husband for a new carrier for mothers day. I was going to ask for an ergo but I just don't know. I have a one year old who is only 19ish lbs but will obviously get bigger. I am only 5'2". I want to be able to comfortably carry him on my back, hip, and front. What do you guys think?

Re: suggestions please

Ergo. I sold my first Ergo to fund a Boba, then sold the Boba and went back and bought an Ergo!

I am 5'3" 120 lbs. and have a short torso and narrow shoulders. The Boba was too wide in the shoulders for me - like the straps were too wide and I couldn't get a snug fit. Baby was very comfortable (22 lbs at the time). Also, the padding stopped under my armpits and caused the webbing to rub me raw even over shirts. I didn't like the buckle in the center of my waist either.

Ergo straps are padded quite a long way down and I can back carry my now 26 lb kiddo for up to 2 hours with no pain. I wear her low on my hips and loosen the shoulder straps and she becomes weightless.

I was going to try a Beco because I heard they were good for petites, but they're not great for growing toddlers because they can't be knee-to-knee anymore. Also, I know the buckles can be complicated.

In the end, the original Ergo won for comfort, ease of use, price and the fact that it has a zip pocket to stash keys, an extra diaper and wipes!

Re: suggestions please

If you have the opportunity to go to a store that sells carriers or try one via a babywearing cooperative, that would be your best bet. It's amazing how different the soft-structured carriers can feel.

I know paxbaby.com also does rentals, so you could try getting an Ergo through there to see how you like it.

I have an Olives & Applesauce SSC that I love, but it is on the tall side (I'm 5'4" and can't comfortably sit down with it on).
