Reasons Why We Homeschool

I would like to get a collective list of all the positive and encouraging reason why we homeschool, and why homeschooling is important. I want to copy it and put it up around the house, so on days that are exhausting and difficult I can remember why we do this.

Here's my list so far:

Why We Homeschool
1. So our children have a genuine and close relationship with one another
2. So we can incorporate OUR faith and values on our children
3. To protect our children from unnecessary cruelty and hatred
4. So our children will enjoy education and learning

any others, join in!

i'm compiling a master list, so far i have 45 answers! some goofy, some spiritual, some genuine, but all wonderful. i welcome more reasons before i finish the list and post it!

Re: Reasons Why We Homeschool

So we can be the primary influence and guide for our children....not strangers! (because let's face is PS teachers are strangers)

So that our kids can have a childhood.

So that our kids can learn in a way that works with their learning style.

Re: Reasons Why We Homeschool

I had a lot of bad experiences in school (and Christian school was worse than public! Not all people who put their children in private school are raising their children right!). I am not great at homeschooling, and I am thankful that anything I don't do well they can get elsewhere (tutoring, etc), but anything negative that happens at school can never be undone.

My #1 priority in life is not to raise children with superior intellects (which just leads to pride & boasting) but it is to raise good people who love God.

Re: Reasons Why We Homeschool

* b/c oldest ds has some medical/food issues and is sick a lot
* so I can tailor their education to their level and their learning style
* so that they can have a lot of extracurricular activities and field trips w/o it interfering with family time (cuz we still get to do it all together)
* so I can present world issues/social issues from *our* Catholic perspective
* so we can tailor our family time and vacations according to dh's schedule (he is a pilot and is gone a lot)
* and b/c I just really love being with them and they enjoy being with each other ~ and so now when they are off with friends, I don't feel like jeeze, I won't get any time with them b/c of this and that and the other and then back to school or whatever.

Re: Reasons Why We Homeschool

-So I can raise my children, not the school system where I used to work!
-So my children can have the superior education that is gained when I have the time and freedom to teach them the material the way they learn best(which I know from experience teachers in public and private schools ARE NOT able to do for all kids).
-So my children are raised and taught in the morally sound environment of our home, and are trained up the way they should so when they are grown they will not depart.
-So I can truly TEACH my children and teach them how to love learning, instead of just how to pass a standardized test!
-So my son with special needs can learn at exactly the pace that works for him in an environment MADE to meet his needs, and learn to LEARN and live life in a world that is often hostile to the way his brain functions on his own terms in his own time and is not forced to be medicated for the convenience of under-staffed teachers and aids.

...All told, this pretty much sums it up:

Re: Reasons Why We Homeschool

We homeschool our kids because we want them to grow up confident in who they are. We don't want to the to conform to someone else's ideas of who they should be.

EXACTLY THIS!!! I do really LOVE being with my kids! I don't like taking overnight trips or weekends away from them. And I want them to feel that closeness, too!
